Garlic Planting 2026

As well as harvesting for our winter shared and storing up lots of carrots, beets, and turnips for the winter, the last big fall project we're working on right now is planting garlic. Garlic gets planted in the fall, sits tight over the winter, pops up first thing in the spring, and gets harvested all at once in mid summer. Garlic isn't planted as seeds, it's actual cloves that are put in the ground and over time become full heads. We do a half-acre all at once, which is about 42,000 cloves, which will become 42,000 heads next summer!
